Citizen M Hotel

Citizen M contracted Balfour Beatty to help with rolling out a new chain in the UK offering affordable luxury. The nine-storey, 370-key hotel stands directly opposite the Tower of London a World Heritage site. Maximising space is important to Citizen M and a café, bar, restaurant and meeting spaces were included in the scheme as well as a landscaped café terrace overlooking the Roman ruins.

Although the building is directly above the Circle and District line a single-storey basement was designed beneath the building. Moortown Group Ltd won the contract for the groundworks package and asked Premcrete to design a system to fully waterproof the basement area which would win the approval of London Underground Limited. Premcrete designed a Type A Bentonite waterproofing system with Hydrostop BR waterbar. The system was approved by Moortown, LUL and Balfour Beatty. Premcrete then worked with the Moortown site team to keep control of the installation quality and give their client confidence in the waterproofing.
